Carrol Davenport, MDiv. CT, Coordinator for Spiritual Care and Bereavement Services, at Hospice of Northeast Missouri (a service of Hannibal Regional), has been awarded the Ron and Elsie Gaber Founder’s Award for Excellence in Hospice. This recognition, established through a generous donation from Ron and Elsie Gaber of Kirksville, aims to recognize outstanding individuals who demonstrate unwavering commitment and exceptional service in providing comfort and support to Hospice patients and their families.
Carrol received several nominations for this award. One nomination was submitted by a family member of a hospice patient, and it sheds light on Carrol’s profound impact in the organization and with those she serves. “This lady, Carrol Davenport, is something else,” said Barb Smith. “I am honored to make this nomination. In 2007 we met because we decided it was time to reach out to Hospice. We hated to make that call. It felt like we were giving up hope that a miracle could still happen. We went through the process and one was meeting the chaplain Carrol. She made us feel so comfortable and at peace with our decision.” It was because of Carrol that Barb later joined Hospice as a volunteer.
“I have grasped a lot from her,” writes Barb. “With her outstanding sense of insight into each person’s emotional situation. Carrol has a way of looking at something very simple and giving it value and worth. Her intuition about people and their lives in general is very inspirational. She is one of those leaders that excel in her field. I am proud to call her my friend.” The Gaber Founder’s Award for Excellence in Hospice Services is a testament to Carrol Davenport’s exemplary service and her profound impact on the lives of those she serves.
